Andrew H. Sherman, Chair of the Sills Cummis & Gross Creditors’ Rights/Bankruptcy Reorganization Practice Group, is a trusted advisor, representing clients in a broad range of complex business reorganizations, debt restructurings, and insolvency matters throughout the United States.

Since the mid-2000s, Andrew has developed a sub-specialty in healthcare insolvency matters and has represented committees and major creditors in some of the largest and most well-known healthcare bankruptcies and financial liquidations throughout the United States. He has represented the Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors in twenty-four (24) hospital and other healthcare bankruptcy cases; two (2) hospitals as debtors; several financially distressed hospitals on bankruptcy avoidance and related legal strategies; and unsecured and secured creditors, including vendors and employees, in multiple hospital and healthcare cases.

In addition to his work in the healthcare industry, Andrew advises companies experiencing financial difficulties and routinely represents lenders and other parties in financings and acquisitions involving troubled companies. He represents investment management firms in debt restructuring matters, commercial workouts, and Chapter 11 cases in such cases as Motor Coach Industries Int'l, Inc. and Marcal Paper Mills, Inc.

He is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute, and has held several committee leadership positions, including serving as co-chair and education director of the healthcare committee and the commercial and regulatory law committee. He is also a member of the Turnaround Management Association.

He is admitted to practice in New Jersey and New York, and before several courts, including the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey, the Southern District of New York, the Eastern District of New York, and the Northern District of New York; the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and the Ninth Circuit; and the U.S. Supreme Court.

He received his J.D. from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law at Yeshiva University and his A.B. from Cornell University.
