Matthew G. Summers is a partner in Ballard Spahr LLP’s Wilmington, Delaware office.  Matt is a 2000 graduate of the University of Maryland School of Law and practiced in Baltimore for 10 years before relocating to Delaware in 2010.  Matt is Practice Group Leader of Ballard Spahr’s national Bankruptcy & Restructuring Practice Group and co-leads the firm's Distressed Assets & Opportunities initiative.  Matt represents secured creditors, landlords, asset purchasers, indenture trustees, manufacturers, mezzanine lenders, officers and directors, unsecured creditors, trustees, debtors, and other parties-in-interest in all aspects of bankruptcy cases and bankruptcy-related litigation, in Delaware and Maryland, and nationally.

Matt has substantial experience representing creditors and debtors in Chapter 9 bankruptcy cases.  Matt currently represents the City of Chester in its chapter 9 case pending in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and represents a substantial bondholder in the San Benito Health Care District chapter 9 case pending in the Northern District of California.  Matt also represented the largest holder of pension obligation bonds in the Detroit and San Bernardino, California, chapter 9 cases, and represented a large creditor in the Western Community Energy chapter 9 case.
